"I have said that the ultimate goal of spiritual growth is for the individual to become as one with God ... It is for the individual to become totally, wholly God….God wants us to become Himself (or Herself or Itself).” (M. Scott Peck, “The Road Less Traveled”)
"Since the unconscious is God all along, we may further define the goal of spiritual growth to be the attainment of godhood by the conscious self." (M. Scott Peck, “A Different Drum”)
In his chapter on Grace, Peck claims,
"All of us who postulate a loving God and really think about it eventually come to a single terrifying idea: God wants us to become Himself (Herself or Itself). We are growing toward godhood," (The Road Less Traveled, p. 269).
"God" from Peck's perspective is not the living, personal Holy God, but a christ consciousness or other variation of a creative energy such as Kundalini or Evolution, the primary creative energy of the World Spirit, Brahman, or Divine One Substance that either pre-exists everything or has come into being from the Big Bang. In either scenario, all being is at bottom one, or monistic.
Hiding beneath Peck’s claim that “God” wants us to become Himself, Herself, or Itself is the ancient Egyptian Hermetic principle of the correlation of the Divine One Substance with the mind of man: “As above, so below”
Hermes Trismegistus is the father of the magic tradition. His world-famous magic formula demonstrates the consubstantiality (oneness) of Herme's divine mind with the Divine One Substance above. In teaching the meaning of the formula to his son Tat he said:
"The intellect, O Tat, is drawn from the very substance of God. In men, this intellect is God, and so some men are gods and their humanity is near to divinity...If man makes right use of (God's gifts), he differs in no way from the immortals." (God and the Knowledge of Reality, Thomas Molnar, p. 78)
Hermes Trismegistus had a guru, a spirit director called Poimander who taught Hermes that,
"Unless you make yourself equal to God, you cannot understand God, for the like is not intelligible save to the like." (ibid, p. 79)
From the time of the ancients, men have employed a variety of occult psycho-technologies such as mind-altering substances, hypnosis, yogic trance, transcendental meditation, ecstatic dance, drumming, and more recently, rock music…especially in combination with drugs, the Silva Method and deep-breathing exercises in the quest to become “one” with the “God substance” above:
“... I can be saved only by becoming one with the universe. Thereby, too, my deepest 'pantheist' aspirations It was especially the image of God which Teilhard saw in need of urgent redefinition. Modern man has not yet found the God he can adore, a God commensurate to the newly discovered dimensions of the universe” (Ursala King, "Towards a New Mysticism- Teilhard de Chardin and eastern religions" p.172)
Our age of spreading apostasy is witnessing an explosive revival of this ancient occult phenomenon. A major reason is that psychology allegedly provides us with a “scientific” explanation that ascribes whatever frightening entities are encountered while on drugs or through techniques such as taught in the Silva Method to archetypal images from the collective unconscious, a theory attributed to Carl Jung.
Jung's theory however, was precededby William James (1842-1910) theory of “religious experience.” Referred to as the father of American psychology, James theorized that religious experience is a manifestation of the “subconscious,” the means by which man communicates with God “within.”
The theories of James are examples of unconscious Satanism as Rene Guenon (1886-1951), the great French traditionalist metaphysician explains in, “The Spiritist Fallacy,” a detailed expose of the Theosophy, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Spiritism overtaking the minds of modernist priests and intellectuals during Guenon’s lifetime.
Guenon describes sophisticated enlightened theologians and like-minded individuals as those who cannot speak of the devil,
“….without a smile of disdain, or an even more contemptuous shrug of the shoulders.” (p. 252)
Their contempt is due to the fact that scientifically enlightened priests and intellectuals bought into the lie that Lucifer is not the devil but rather the “light-bearer.” They even go so far as to call him ‘the Great Creative Intelligence.’ Thus they invoke Lucifer and perform his cult, but in fact these people,
“…though in fact Satanists, are only unconsciously so, for they are mistaken as to the nature of the entity to whom they address their worship….It goes without saying that these ‘enlightened’ priests are all plainly modernists and that the spirit animating them is strangely similar to that affirmed in these lines.” (p. 254)
Guenon defines as ‘unconscious Satanism’ every “modern” conception that notably disfigures the living God, and in this sense, all theories of an 'evolver' God posited by evolutionary theologians and of a God who evolves must be placed in the front rank. Archbishop Fulton Sheen provides us with an example of one of the devil’s “modern” conceptions:
“Modern philosophy has seen the birth of a new nation of God…It is God in evolution. God ‘is’ not. He ‘becomes.’ In the beginning was not the Lord, but in the beginning was ‘Movement.’ From this movement God is born by successive creations. As the world progresses, He progresses; as the world acquires perfection, He acquires perfection. (Moreover) man is a necessary step in the evolution of God. Just as man came from the beast, God will come from man…” (Great Catholic Books Newsletter; Volume II, Number 2, Fulton J. Sheen Issue)
Satanism, even when unconscious, is always characterized by a reversal of the normal order, and good and evil, and is the opposite of orthodox Christian doctrine.
In this sense, evolutionary conceptions are Satanic because they persuade people to believe that everything in nature is the fruit of a gradual upward progression from either pre-existing or self-generated matter rather than the fallen but nevertheless good creation of the living God Who spoke.
Because infernal evolutionary conceptions reverse the normal order, their sweeping acceptance means that it is now difficult if not impossible for Americans and Westerners to conceive of the Genesis account creation ex nihilo as traditional Christianity taught, because if “God” has evolved from man who has evolved from beasts then perfection obviously lies somewhere in the future rather than in the past from which mankind fell. As well, if after a Big Bang a limited God used evolution over vast periods of time before the appearance of hominids then God is responsible for the suffering and death of the millions of lifeforms preceding the hominids, making God the father of evil. In this demonically inverted 'theology' the “way” to perfection proposed by the devil obviously lies with the occult science of Hermetic magic and psycho-technologies whereby man’s salvation is achieved by becoming “one” with the Divine Substance, Omega Point, Brahman, or Singularity.
It is here that Guenon turns his attention to the theories of William James, which he classifies as unconscious Satanism for two reasons. First, James theory of “religious experience” as a manifestation of the “subconscious” by which man communicates with the Divine “within” is only one step away from “condoning the practices of spiritism” (contact with spirits) with the further consequence of conferring on evil spirits an “eminently religious character.”
This has come to pass. As just one example out of literally hundreds, there is New Age theologian David Spangler speaking of Lucifer as an ‘eminently religious character,’ a savior-spirit he correlates with Christ:
“The true light of this great being can only be recognized when one's own eyes can see with the light of the Christ, the light of the inner sun. Lucifer works within each of us to bring us to wholeness, and as we move into the New Age, which is the age of man's wholeness, each of us is brought to that point which I term the Luciferic Initiation, the particular doorway through which the individual must pass if he is to come fully into the presence of his light and his wholeness.”
“Lucifer comes to give us the final gift of wholeness. If we accept it, then he is free and we are free, that is the Luciferic Initiation. It is one that many people now, and in the days ahead, will be facing, for it is an initiation into the New Age.” (David Spangler, Reflections on the Christ, Findhorn Lecture Series, 3rd ed., 1981; p. 45)
The second reason James theory qualifies as unconscious Satanism is the notion that the subconscious puts man in contact with the Divine Substance “within” which puts God in an inferior state of being:
“This then is a properly ‘infernal’ doctrine, a reversal of universal order, which is precisely what we call ‘Satanism.’ Guenon adds, “The devil is not only terrible, he is often grotesque…” (pp. 258-262)
From the Renaissance to our own time, a stunning spiritual transformation of consciousness has been transferring Western and American thinking away from the supernatural living Holy God and biblical religion and toward unconscious Satanism: the new pagan religion of evolution.
Under the new pagan religion, the animated god-force called evolution is the principle miracle-producing power of the cosmos and unconscious Satanists are evolution's conscious products who can now achieve ever-higher levels of consciousness by directing their own evolution by going “within.”
Some unconscious Satanists now claim that a powerful mechanism is presently available to man from aliens who will solve mankind's problems and conduct man to a new "cosmic" age. Aliens are busily transforming the consciousness of abductees and other Westerners and through them teaching evolution, monism, occult New Age philosophy, warning of a coming planetary apocalypse and denying the living Triune God, the supernatural dimension and Christian theism.
All of this has led French physicist and UFO researcher Dr. Jacques Vallee to conclude that something is happening to human consciousness that is causing a major shift in man's belief systems and his relationship to the concept of the invisible. Vallee believes that the same "powerful force' that influenced the human race in the past is influencing it again:
".....human belief...is being controlled and conditioned, man's concepts are being rearranged, and we may be headed toward a massive change of human attitudes toward paranormal abilities and extraterrestrial life." (Orthodoxy and the Religion of the Future, Fr. Seraphim Rose, p. 109)
In light of this, Vallee proposes the hypothesis that there is a control system,
"... for human consciousness...I am suggesting that what takes place through close encounters with UFOs is control of human beliefs, control of the relationship between our consciousness and physical reality, and that this control has been in force throughout history...." (Alien Intrusion: UFOs and the Evolution Connection, Gary Bates, p. 158)
In occult terminology, transformation of consciousness is egregore, a concept representing a "thought form" or "collective group mind," resulting from a psychic entity influencing the thoughts of a group of people. However, egregore derives from the Greek word for "watchers," leading the French occult magician Eliphas Levi (1810-1875) to identify egregore with the fallen angel 'fathers' of the nephilim.
In Christian language, transformation of consciousness means demonic oppression and possession resulting from a "demonic outpouring.' Vallee's "powerful force" is really a new demonic outpouring being loosed by the devil and his legions, even within apostatizing Churches full of false converts, various occult rituals (yoga, 'new' contemplative prayer) and devices (enneagram), corrupted Bibles and the bread of this world rather than heavenly manna:
“There is a false ‘holy spirit’called Kundalini that has invaded the churches. It is the same spirit that Hindus, yoga practitioners, and New Agers are familiarwith (the ‘serpent power’). It is imparted by laying on of hands. It, along with other unholy mocking spirits, began entering the ‘churches’ with the ‘Toronto Blessing’. Another big doorway was Todd Bentley’s ‘Lakeland Revival’. People, hungry for a move of God, went long distances to take part in these events, and to receive the spirit. They then carried the spirit back to their home churches, and imparted it to others by laying on of hands…. If you believe you have received the Kundalini (or any other) spirit, then you need deliverance. But don’t let that frighten you away from seeking the baptism of the Holy Spirit.” (Holy Spirit Baptism, dontbefooled666.wordpress.com)
Though a demonic outpouring overshadows our land, penetrating even into undiscerning, entertainment saturated and unfaithful Churches, hold tight to our Lord, He is our Rock:
“And He said to me, 'It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son." Revelation 21:4
