Why Progressive Christianity is not Christian At All

Still reeling from the election in which Donald Trump was elected president, several progressive Christians pondered the necessary steps to draw a stronger contrast between their brand of kindhearted progressive Christianity, and the kind of conservative, evangelical Christianity that helped elect Donald Trump:

The responses were predictably representative of left-wing Christianity, which centered on re-emphasizing social justice issues and identity politics as the “loving,” compassionate, anti-Trumpian counterpart to the hate-filled Christianity of the right. Also predictably representative was the tone of unearned moral superiority in the responses of the progressive Christians interviewed – and progressive Christians in general.”  (Progressive Christians to Take Back Their Faith After Election, Derryck  Green, The Aquila Report)

Progressive Christianity is not true Christianity at all but rather a species of pagan materialism calling itself Christianity. Materialism belongs to the family of Naturalism, which refers to the view that nature (or matter) is the Ultimate Substance (i.e., star stuff according to Carl Sagan) out of which the universe and all life evolved and is made, thus "all is one."   C. S. Lewis describes naturalism as a box with its top sealed tightly closed in order to keep out the Triune God and the supernatural realm.  The ancient Babylonians, Egyptians, Ionians, and Aztecs were, for example, naturalists.  In this view there is but one realm (the material or natural) as opposed to Christianity's creation model with its two interacting realms: natural (the seen) and supernatural (the unseen).

Because “all is one,” or in “solidarity,” the linchpin of Progressive Christianity, as with secular Leftism, is cultural determinism, the parent of identity politics and group solidarity.  In its turn, cultural determinism was birthed by the Darwinian idea that man is but a product of evolution—a soulless hominid, and therefore his identity is genetically determined by for example, his skin color or his sexual and/or erotic preferences.  This proposition rejects the concepts of the human spirit/soul, personhood, individuality, free will, and morally informed conscience (paired with personal accountability and responsibility) because it emphatically denies the existence of the God of the Bible.

Consequently, and by extension, it also rejects the first principles of our liberty enumerated in the Declaration of Independence.  These are our "unalienable rights, among which are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”     Progressive Leftism (Marxism) must reject these because these principles of liberty "are endowed by our Creator," who made man in His image.

Cultural determinism, said former red-diaper baby David Horowitz, is identity politics—

“…the politics of radical feminism, queer revolution, and Afro-centrism—which is the basis of academic multiculturalism (communism)…a form of intellectual fascism and, insofar as it has any politics, of political fascism as well.” (Mussolini and Neo-Fascist Tribalism: Up from Multiculturalism, David Horowitz)

In this light, it becomes clear why astute observers realize that Progressive Christianity is more about being properly positioned and seen as against manufactured evils,

"....how “moral” and “religious” they look to other like-minded people choosing ‘love’ over ‘hate’ – rather than genuine concern for the people/groups these “evils,” it’s claimed, negatively effect. It’s self-congratulatory virtue vanity, it’s empty, and it violates Jesus’ admonition against practicing one’s righteousness before men instead of calling those they claim to represent to a higher standard of living as disciples of Christ."
