The ever-liberal District of Columbia City Council has voted to accept gay marriages from outside of the District. Twelve out of 13 members of the council voted in favor of gay marriages. At least two on the council are openly gay. Ironically, it was council member Marion Barry who opposed the bill. Barry is former mayor of D.C. who has impeccable liberal credentials, but who also has a history of drug use.
Under the District’s home rule charter, lawmakers could weigh in on the decision within 30 days. By leaving the measure alone, Congress would allow it to become law. Speaker Pelosi said the Congress will not act on the matter.
Thirty states currently have laws banning gay marriage. Other states have had gay marriage imposed on them by liberal activist judges or by liberal politicians, against the will of the people. The Democrat Governor of Maine just signed a law legalizing gay marriage. New Hampshire politicians may also impose gay marriage on their states. Last month, the Vermont legislature just voted to legalize gay marriage in that state.
The imposition of gay marriage upon our nation will result in the destruction of religious freedom. It has happened overseas and in Canada and it will happen here if we do not stop its spread.
Gays have made it clear they aren’t really interested in gay marriage. What they are really after is the total destruction of the concept of marriage altogether. See TVC’s report: Do Gays Really Want The Right To Marry?
President Obama has indicated that he supports gay civil unions (which is gay marriage under another name) and will work to overturn the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) signed into law by former President Clinton in 1996. DOMA protects states from being forced to recognize gay marriages from other states. If DOMA is overturned, then every state without a marriage amendment to their state constitutions will be forced to recognize gay marriage.
