Obama Hates Israel Because He Hates America

In his new book “The Grand Jihad: How Islam And The Left Sabotage America” Andrew McCarthy puts Obama’s full-waist bow to the absolute monarch of Saudi Arabia in context:

“So, of all the planet’s potentates, why would an American president demean his station in homage to this one? Because Saudi Arabia is the cradle of Islam. More specifically, it is the bottomless purse and symbolic crown of a movement which aims at nothing less than supplanting Western political, economic and cultural values. The subversion of those values is Obama’s fondest wish: the work of his presidency, the Hope behind the Change. The president was bowing to a shared dream.”

That is the only possible way to understand Obama’s abysmal treatment of Israel, one of America's most reliable allies for over six decades, as well as the only democracy in the Middle East. Simply and succinctly put: Obama is anti-Israel because Obama is anti-America. He hates the Jewish state because he hates the republic he was elected to govern — its history and the values on which it was founded.

It seems counter-intuitive. In terms of domestic politics, Obama has nothing to gain and much to lose by channeling Yasser Arafat.

The American people see Israel as our friend. In a recent Rasmussen poll, 58% said Israel is our ally, while 2% said Zion is our enemy — which means only 2% of Americans are qualified to serve in the Obama administration. In the same survey, nearly 50% said they blamed the terrorist-sympathizers who ran the so-called Free Gaza flotilla for the bloody confrontation. Only 19% thought the fault lies with Israel.

In Gallup’s latest country ratings, 67% of Americans said they had a favorable opinion of Israel (the 5th highest), while just 20% were pro-Palestinian Authority.

Bowing to that overwhelming sentiment, on March 27, two-thirds of the U.S. House of Representatives signed a letter to Secretary of State Clinton declaring: “We are writing to reaffirm our commitment to the unbreakable bond that exists between our country and the State of Israel and to express to you our deep concern over recent tension.” The “recent tension” referenced was due entirely to this administration’s ingrained hostility to Israel.

The latest instance of this was seen last week, when Palestinian Capo Mahmoud Abbas dragged his carcass to the White House. Contrast Abbas’s treatment to the bum’s rush Bibi Netanyahu got in March. For Abbas, the red carpet ostentatiously rolled out was lined with tax dollars.

When Israel’s president visited Saul Alinsky Central — he got no press conference, no photo-op, no state dinner — just a lecture on the unmitigated gall of Israel to plan Jewish housing units in the capital of the Jewish state.

By contrast, Abbas got a pledge of an additional $400 million in aid for Gaza, to help citizens of Hamas-istan with “housing, school construction (and) business development.” Surely not to build bunkers and rocket launching sites.

The tribute represents “a down payment on the United States commitment to Palestinians in Gaza,” Barack Hussein grandiosely declared. A commitment that reciprocates for what — their hatred of America, their alliance with Saddam Hussein during the Gulf War, turning their children into claymore mines, their misogyny, their rabid anti-Semitism? BTW — those are rhetorical questions.

Writing in The Australian about the same time Obama and Co. were throwing a hissy fit over the announcement of planned housing construction in Jerusalem, Greg Sheridan, the paper’s Foreign Editor, observed, “Barack Obama’s anti-Israel jihad (that’s the word he used) is one of the most irresponsible policy lurches by any modern American president.” True, but it’s also perfectly in sync with the rest of his leftist foreign policy.

In March, Hillary spent 45-minutes on the phone berating Netanyahu for his audacity in building housing units for Jews in Jerusalem, on land Obama intends to bestow on the Palestinians.

Vice President Biden told Bibi he was endangering U.S. troops. Leave it to Joe to suggest that terrorism in Iraq and Afghanistan is driven by Israel's plans to build an apartment for Mrs. Goldberg in East Jerusalem. (For the record, Muslims object as much to Jewish housing in Tel Aviv and Netanya as in Jerusalem’s Old City.) The other name on the bumper stickers failed to explain how Mrs. Goldberg’s apartment also contributes to global warming — doubtless an oversight.

Last September, Obama set the tone for his administration’s Carteresque Middle East policy, when he proclaimed that the United States “does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlements” — otherwise known as Jewish communities on Jewish land in the Jewish state.

Israel must “end the occupation that began in 1967,” the ideologue intoned. He probably also wants Arizona, Texas and California to end their occupation of Mexican territory brutally seized in the first half of the 19th century.

The “Gaza flotilla” is the administration’s latest excuse to bash Israel. The president demands that Israel conduct an “effective investigation of everything that happened” during the manufactured incident. Hillary said such an inquiry must be “viewed as credible by the international community” — which will accept nothing less than an Israeli mea culpa, accompanied by reparations and floggings.

It’s interesting to contrast the foregoing with Obama’s obscene pandering to Islam. Let us consult The Quotable Barack:

Obama: “As a student of history, I also know civilization’s debt to Islam.” And what would that be? Camel dung? Female circumcision? Suicide bombings? Honor killings?

“America and Islam are not exclusive, and need not be in competition. Instead, they overlap and share common principles — principles of justice and progress; tolerance and the dignity of all human beings.” (In fairness to the rest of us, they should hand out barf bags at presidential speeches.)

Trivia question: The first Muslim democracy was? The latest Muslim democracy is? When you think of Saudi Arabia, Syria, Pakistan and Egypt — is tolerance and the protection of minority rights the first things that come to mind?

Speaking at a memorial for the 13 soldiers slain at Ft. Hood last year, Obama said the murders are “incomprehensible” — i.e., that which can not be comprehended. That a devout Muslim, who studied at a radical mosque, justified jihad to his medical colleagues, handed out copies of the Koran prior to the shootings and shouted “Allah is great” while pumping round after round into his fellow soldiers — that such a man could kill U.S. soldiers in cold blood is beyond understanding for our president.

Interviewed on “Meet The Press” in the wake of the crimes (and speaking with his master’s voice), Army Chief of Staff General George Casey whimpered: “As horrific as this tragedy was, if our diversity becomes a casualty, I think that’s worse.” In Patton’s Seventh Army, Casey would have been lucky to clean latrines.

In Obama’s White House, the crescent-kissing never stops.

We’ve reached out to every thug regime and terrorist gang in the land of sand and fleas. As Iran races toward nuclear weapons at breakneck speed, we wave wet-noodle sanctions and struggle to find common ground with the genocidal whack-job who rules that benighted land.

We tried dialoguing with Damascus. In return, Syria shipped Scud missiles to Hezbollah. Deputy National Security Advisor John O. Brennan — touted by The Washington Post as a dominant voice in the administration on security affairs — believes the U.S. should encourage Hezbollah’s integration in Lebanon’s government.

The sins of Afghan strongman Hamid Karazi (corruption, opium production) are conveniently overlooked, as is the Pakistan Inter-Services Intelligence’s collaboration with the Taliban. Infinite patience for the Nazis of the Muslim world; zero tolerance for the nation of Holocaust survivors. That’s the order of the day in Obama’s White House.

The bridge between Obama’s anti-Zionism and pro-Islamism is his determination to deconstruct America.

Obama isn’t merely the first post-American president; he’s the first openly anti-American president. (Carter didn’t explicitly embrace blame-America-first until he left office.)

During the campaign, Obama derided Middle America as a bastion of xenophobic, fundamentalist, gun nuts. At a San Francisco cocktail party (more elitist than that, you can not get), the president-to-be spoke sneeringly of the middle class, who, in their bitterness over lost jobs: “cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment, or anti-trade sentiment….” or support for Israel.

Since he took office, it’s been a steady stream of America-the-ugly from the messiah’s lips. “America has not succeeded by stepping outside the currents of international cooperation,” the knee-jerk internationalist warned. “The United States will be willing to acknowledge out past errors, where those errors have been made.” “Our country still struggles with the legacies of slavery and segregation, the past treatment of Native Americans.”

“All too often, our government has made decisions based on fear rather than foresight; all too often, our government has trimmed facts and evidence to fit ideological predispositions.” Talk about psychological projection!

No wonder a bust of Winston Churchill (on loan from 10 Downing Street) was banished from the Obama White House. The greatest British statesman of the 20th century admired America. Obama loathes and fears it. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if portraits of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln went next.

Obama’s mindset is manifest in words and deeds.

You can see it every day in a hundred ways: His refusal to wear an American flag lapel pin for most of the presidential campaign, skipping the wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day (two years in a row), and Obama’s order that U.S. military compounds in Haiti involved in humanitarian relief work not fly the American flag. “We are not an occupation force, but an international partner committed to supporting the government of Haiti on the road to recovery,” Washington tersely responded to criticism.

Only an administration of inveterate invertebrates could imagine that Haitians could conceivably equate the Stars and Strips flown over an aid distribution center with neo-colonialism. Perhaps the Boy Scout who helps an old lady across the street should assure her that he does not intend to rob and rape her in the process.

Almost as bad as his salaam to the Saudi King was Obama’s extreme obeisance to Mexico — the hand-wringing and garment-rending that went on because Arizonans are trying to enforce the immigration laws this administration is determined to ignore.

Speaking at the West Point graduation late last month, Obama outlined his vision for a “new international order,” where American sovereignty is subordinated to the international institutions that have served us so well in the past (think of the non-response to North Korea's recent sinking of a South Korean ship), where we’ll need a U.N. resolution to defend our national security and decisions on our fiscal policy are made in Brussels.

Following this grand design, because the U.N. and European Union are anti-Israel, the U.S. must be too.

But it goes far beyond that. Hatred of Israel is an underpinning of the leftist worldview and Obama is a doctrinaire leftist.

The left sees Israel as an extension of America. In its twisted psyche, Israel has come to represent all of the sins reputed to the West — colonialism, capitalism, militarism and racism. This notwithstanding that Israel’s population is composed largely of the descendants of Jews who have lived in the Middle East for millennia (senile anti-Semite Helen Thomas might as well have told Israelis to go back to Egypt and Yemen), minority rights are better-protected in Israel than almost anywhere else in the world (Arabs in Israel proper have been full citizens since 1948) and IDF military action has always been in response to aggression and terrorism, from the War of Independence to the latest Hamas rocket attack from Gaza.

But by their status as an “oppressed people” (even with their oil wealth), Muslims are automatically seen as the repository of virtue — despite their abysmal treatment of women, horrific treatment of racial and religious minorities throughout the region (including the Kurds of Iraq and Turkey and the Copts of Egypt) and the fact that (how to put it?) they aren’t exactly lifestyle friendly.

No matter, for the left, anti-Americanism and being an oppressed, indigenous people trumps every other consideration. The left views Islam as a convenient ally in its war on the West, much the way the communists viewed the Nazis until Berlin broke the Hitler/Stalin Pact.

The synthesis of leftist anti-Zionism and anti-Americanism may be vividly seen in the Gospel According to the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Jr., Obama’s spiritual mentor for 19 years.

The man who said “God damn America… for killing innocent people,” and 9/11 was “America’s chickens coming home to roost,” also said Israel is “a dirty word” and accused Jerusalem of “state terrorism.” So delusional is Obama’s pastor that he even described Jesus as “a beautiful Palestinian boy” — whose mother wanted him to grow up to be a suicide bomber who would get 72 doe-eyed virgins in Paradise?

Wright has competition from unrepentant ex-terrorist William Ayers, another radical pal from Obama’s Chicago days, who said “America makes me want to puke,” and “we didn’t bomb enough” in the 1960s. Along with his wife, the lovely Bernardine Dohrn, and Code Pink’s Jodie Evans, Ayers helped to organize the Free Gaza Movement, which in turn ran the Gaza “peace” flotilla. Ayers has been a guest in the Obama White House on three separate occasions. Evans was an Obama bundler during the campaign. Both tried to lead a “peace” march from Egypt to Gaza last summer.

Expect the next two and a half years to be more of the same. The Muslim world will be increasingly emboldened by Obama’s abandonment of Israel. As a result, attacks on Israel will escalate and Jerusalem will, out of necessity, respond as it considers appropriate. And the world will become an increasingly dangerous place for Americans, Israelis and Jews.

Before he can handle “Hatikvah,” Obama will have to learn the words to “The Star-Spangled Banner” — if we can ever get him to stop singing “The Internationale.”
