On March 23, 2010 Rep. John Dingell (D-MI), defended ObamaCare on WJR’s Paul W. Smith radio show out of Detroit. In response to a question posed by Smith, Dingell stated:
“Let me remind you this [Americans allegedly dying because of lack of universal health care] has been going on for years. We are bringing it to a halt. The harsh fact of the matter is when you’re going to pass legislation that will cover 300 [million] American people in different ways it takes a long time to do the necessary administrative steps that have to be taken to put the legislation together to control the people.â€
“Control the peopleâ€, sounds like something out the former USSR, does it not? Well, get ready Comrades as it only gets better.
As you all know by now, on August 13 Obama hosted an Iftar dinner at the White House in celebration of the Muslim holiday Ramadan in which he said:
“But let me be clear. As a citizen, and as president, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as everyone else in this country. And that includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in Lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances.â€
Now, of course the very next day Obama attempted to back pedal and clarify his words by saying:
“I was not commenting and I will not comment on the wisdom of making the decision to put a mosque there. I was commenting very specifically on the right people have that dates back to our founding.â€
Funny, I thought he was pretty “clear†that both as a citizen and as president it was fine that a mosque be built at Ground Zero. But I guess, along with the greater percentage of the public, I misunderstood.
I need not discuss the backlash caused by that statement as it has been the topic of every news station, newspaper and magazine that I have seen since. I had even chosen last week not to write about it since everyone and their grandmother was doing such a fine job covering it.
Then last Tuesday House Speaker Nancy Pelosi weighed in with her two cents:
“There is no question there is a concerted effort to make this a political issue by some. I join those who have called for looking into how is this opposition to the mosque being funded, how is this being ginned up?â€
