Egypt and Libya vs. Wisconsin and Ohio:Needs vs Wants

I cringe each time I hear anyone, be it on Fox News, CNN, or from a friend, compare the violent uprisings in the Arab world with the union protests opposed to budget cuts in many states, most prominently at the moment in Wisconsin and Ohio.

While it seems silly to actually enunciate the obvious differences between life in the United States and life in an Arab country, it is sufficient just to point out that people in Egypt and Libya are mostly fighting to satisfy needs, while here in Wisconsin and Ohio, protestors who are in support of unions and the status quo when it comes to government spending are mostly bickering to satisfy wants.
