Thousands rally in support of Nativity scene

Several thousand people from across the country packed into downtown Athens Saturday, calling for freedom of religious expression. The “Stand up for Faith” rally supported the Henderson County officials who refused to take down a nativity scene on the courthouse lawn.

The Freedom from Religion Foundation out of Wisconsin claims the nativity scene violated separation of church and state. Rally organizers say the get-together was about a more than a single complaint about religious expression.

One of the organizers is Nathan Lorick, the pastor at the First Baptist Church in Malakoff.

He preaches to the crowd of thousands, “This is in fact, one nation under God!”
