From its' inception America has been deeply Christian, with emphasis on Protestant Christianity. But today true or orthodox Christianity is marginalized, ridiculed, and accused of threatening world peace and of being intolerant and hateful. A 'new' Christless Christianity is rising up and taking the place of true Christian theism. This strange fire cleverly reconciles opposites, that is Christianity and the fundamental tenets of naturalism (which denies the supernatural Triune God), scientism, and evolutionism to create a 'new' Christless Christianity. The traditional universal faith taught by Jesus Christ to the Apostles, who in turn handed it on to the Church Fathers and from the Fathers to our own times has been turned upside-down. It has become the very opposite of what was handed down. This is not a mere loss of faith. It is apostasy, the literal rejection of everything really Christian by dressing naturalism, scientism and evolutionism up in Christian garb in an attempt to take over the Christian faith by deception.
For the deception to succeed the 'new' Christianity needs to look and sound as much like the Truth as it can. For the lie to replace Truth, Big Lies arrogantly, boldly proclaimed as truth are necessary.
And where better for Christless Christianity to emerge than in America, the modern citadel of Christian faith?
Dr. Peter Jones points to Evolutionary Christianity as a major facet of the coming Christless Christianity:
"Evolutionary Christianity" is producing the longed-for and much-prophesied synthesis, namely, the union of science and spirituality.... Evolutionary Christianity is a variant of Wilber's 'Theory of Everything,' a worldview of (Vedanta monism) that claims to explain everything through the notion of human evolution into a non-dual divine. Michael Dowd, the ex-Evangelical now evangelist for evolution (agrees) with Bishop's Spong's post-theistic Christianity (and) declares supernatural other-worldly religion will die out for a post-metaphysical natural religion." (quoted in Nihilism: Why America and the West are Committing Suicide, L. Kimball
Jones adds that Evolutionary Christianity is an online gathering place for:
"....evangelical theistic evolutionists, 'progressive' Emergent Christian leaders, radical post-theistic Christian liberals, Christian non-dual mystics, pro-homosexual ministers, radical religious feminists, and recognized evolutionary scientists. Some are deeply influenced by Pierre Teillard de Chardin, and pagan "geologians" such as Thomas Berry and Brian Swimme." (ibid)

In "Ungodly Rage" Roman Catholic journalist Donna Steichen examines another facet, this one involving the take-over of the true Roman Catholic faith. Steichen reports that over eighty thousand nuns have flown the convents and ended up in wiccan covens. Apostate nuns are now into crystal reading, Jungian dream work, tarot cards, and other occult New Age techniques for their spirit quest. Steichen writes:
"At my first exposure to witchcraft, I thought I had stumbled into a uniquely lunatic cul-de-sac. I didn't know it was part of a movement and didn't guess how closely it was entangled with general theological dissent..."
Steichen reveals that purveyors of Christless Christianity have deeply infiltrated the Roman Catholic Church to an extent few realize. Apostates "occupy prominent chairs in theology at Catholic and secular universities;
"they are members of seminary faculties; they hold powerful diocesan offices; they are writers and editors for Catholic journals and Catholic publishing houses that produce catechetical materials used throughout the Catholic system...."
"Most of the old Catholic culture has been devoured by spiritual termites...." (UnGodly Rage, pp. 13,21,32, 71)
The Evangelical Church is quickly following Roman Catholicism into apostasy. For a brief examination read:
"Heresy and Humanism: Breakdown of Evangelicalism" http://patriotsandliberty.com/?p=16457

Rapacious Protestant/Evangelical spiritual termites are too numerous for a comprehensive examination so a few examples must suffice. First up is David Spangler. Raised an orthodox Christian Spangler now calls the second coming of Christ the "Luciferic Initiation," the time when Lucifer, the angel of evolutionism, will lead humanity into the Age of Aquarius.
Raised an Evangelical Baptist, today Emily Culpepper is an ecofeminist lesbian replete with a spirit familiar, a 'guide' from the Hindu goddess Kali that possesses Culpeppers' cat. Culpeppers' spiritual guidance was the basis for required reading in Governor's School (a summer program for gifted teenagers) in Arkansas in the late eighties.
The Rev. Nancy Wilson, senior pastor of the 'gay' Metropolitan Community Church in LA calls herself a 'lesbian ecu-terrorist'. She proposes a 'queer theology' justifying all sexual choices that can lead Christians into the coming 'Queer Millenium.'
Evangelical author Viginia Mollencott applauds Wilson's work as "stunningly important, both for our tribe (gays and lesbians) and for any other person, church or organization that seeks to be whole." (Jesus and the Den of Thieves, SCP Journal, Vol. 20:3-4, 1996, p. 19)
Mollencott was 'born again' into a 'new' spiritual freedom using I Ching (Chinese divination). She now admits that like,
"my Elder Brother, Jesus, I am a sinless Self traveling through eternity and temporarily having human experiences in a body known as Virginia Ramey Mollencott..."
Like Spangler, Mollencott eagerly awaits the Luciferic Initiation, a utopia where the goddess Kali shall reign. (ibid)
Apostate Matthew Fox, an androgynous priest who promotes the use of sweat lodges and American Indian prayers to the spirits was excommunicated by the Dominicans but warmly welcomed and ordained by the apostate wing of the Episcopal Church. Fox teaches that sexuality, particularly 'gay' (i.e., sodomy) sexuality is playful worship. There can be no renaissance said Fox
"without a mystical sexual awakening....Love beds are altars. People are temples encountering temples...Wings of Cherubim and Seraphim beat to the groans and passions of human lovers." (Matthew Fox, The Cosmic Christ, pp. 170, 180)
The Jesus Seminar is comprised of apostate scholars who are busily reconciling Gnosticism with the Bible. The Bible must no longer serve as the ultimate source of doctrinal authority and as the true definition of Christianity. James Robinson for example, dismisses the Church Fathers as 'myopic heresy hunters.' They opposed Gnosticism, thus they must be rejected as the future lies in reconciling Gnosticism with Christianity. (Jesus and the Den of Thieves, SCP Journal, Vol. 20:3-4, 1996, p. 21)
The common denominator underlying every variation of Christless Christianity briefly examined thus far is the issue of the incarnate God, Jesus Christ. This is because the notion of a distant, unknowable God (i.e. Pharisees, Muslims, Deists, Unitarians, Marx's deified Matter, Christian Evolutionist John Polkinghorne) or the notion of a God-force immanent and/or identical with nature, therefore of man (ie., Hermetic Mystery Religions, apostate Roman Catholicism, Eastern mysticism, non-dual Christian mystics, pagan geologists like Brian Swimme) are concepts that most accomodate the pride, lust, covetousness and wrath of men.
These concepts place immeasurable power in the hands of fallen, easily corruptible men. They allow fallen men to set themselves up as the interpreters who shed light on and even speak for the distant god and/or god-force as the case may be. Over the centuries this function has been filled by Pharisees, Hermetics, Eastern god-men, esoteric speculators, nature philosophers and now by apostates over and across the whole spectrum of Christian theism, from the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Church to the mainline Protestant and Evangelical Church.
A short list of contemporary Western interpreters includes Ockham, Joachim de Fiore, Kant, Spinoza, Fichte, Comte, Feuerbach, Hegel, Marx, Darwin, Teilhard de Chardin, Emergent Church leader Rob Bell, occult spiritist Robert Muller, Al Gore, Ken Wilber, Matthew Fox, and the Jesus Seminar.
The Catholic philosopher and historian Thomas Molnar (1921-2010) analyzed the history of philosophy and false mysticism in his book, "God and the Knowledge of Reality." He notes that secular atheists and deists (i.e., Karl Marx, Thomas Jefferson, John Polkinghorne) remove God from the human scope, therefore rendering the world unreal, unknowable, and meaningless. A second group holds that God is immanent in the human soul (i.e., Eastern mystics, Mollencott, Jungian 'Christians'), thereby emphasizing the attainment of divine status.
Molnar concludes that according to either of these positions, man becomes by default, by direct or indirect appointment, a divine being insofar as he occupies the supreme spiritual role in the universe. The divine-man may cherish the absolute uniqueness of his thoughts, emotions, aspirations, and enthusiasms. His will becomes the highest form of thought, decision, or action.
This is of course the idolatry condemned over and over again by Scripture.
In contrast said Molnar, a living, personal incarnate God presents to man an immediate form of the living, personal Absolute God outside of and discontinuous with man and nature. This God is near enough to man to be known, to know man’s thoughts, and be consulted. And finally, the incarnate God requires that each person account for how he or she spent his time here.
In conclusion, modern man is entirely confortable with distant gods and god-forces but not with Jesus Christ the Word become Flesh, the incarnate God Who said:
"This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil." John 3:19
