The West's Spirit Wars: Supernatural Theism vs Neo-Pagan Gnosticism

Our war is against God and the world created by Him, declared Karl Marx, father of the Communist Manifesto. In his poem, "The Pale Maiden" he admits that he has willfully opted for Hell: "Thus heaven I've forfeited; I know it full well; My soul, once true to God; Is chosen for hell." (Marx & Satan, Richard Wurmbrand, p. 22)

The esteemed political philosopher Eric Voegelin (1901-1985) contends that certain ideological movements that emerged out of the Enlightenment are variants of pre-Christian and Christian-era Gnosticism. Among these are positivism, Marxism, Progressivism, and America's 'God is dead' movement. And we must add to this list emergent Christian movements, occult New Age and Transhumanism.

Whether it labels itself Christian or not, Gnosticism belongs to the family of one-dimensional Naturalism (paganism), which refers to the view that nature is the Ultimate Substance of which the universe and all life are made, thus “all is one.”

Contrary to supernatural Christian theism which teaches that there are two dimensions, the supernatural (heavenly) and the natural (cosmos, earth), paganism holds that there is only one dimension hence there is no distinction between the Divine Substance and the creature as all things are aspects of (in contiunity with) the Divine Substance.

Human beings have a share of the Divine substance as do all living and nonliving things. As one of the largest aggregates of the Divine Substance, earth or the goddess Gaia must be worshipped by all mankind. Men must live in submission to Gaia.

According to pagan and Gnostic teachings, somehow or other souls or divine sparks fell from being "as one" with the Divine Substance. They have fallen into the multiplicity of evil matter; rather than being one androgynous soul they are now two things, male and female. With modern neo-Gnostic thinkers this concept is called 'alienation.'

The fall then is not into sin but into evil matter hence knowledge (secret gnosis) and perfection of the soul (re-birth) attained through rites of initiation into secret doctrines and by purgation puts one on the path to salvation, which for the masses is reabsorption into the Divine Substance while for the chosen initiates there is the secret way of becoming gods.

Early Christian Gnostics were more directly influenced by Eastern occult pantheist systems than were Greek pagans and they taught an inverted exegis in which the world and bodies are the work of the devil (Yahweh) who holds the Divine Substance (good God..Lucifer) in bondage.

Gnostics, or Pneumatics, possess the secret gnosis of escaping this evil world so as to be reabsorbed into the divine substance. Accordingly, since matter is evil and reabsorption is salvation then procreation and by extension the family structure created by God the Father Almighty is evil because it produces more earthly suffering by trapping divine sparks within bodies.

Marx was a neo-Gnostic evolutionary materialist as are all contemporary scientific materialists, or naturalists. The ground of all modern materialist teachings is ancient Greek Atomism. Atomists such as Epicurus taught that the Ultimate Substance or “all that exists” is void, energy and matter and that human beings, their intelligence and volition, are an evolved accident of chance. Everything is void, energy and matter, therefore God, first principles, eternal ideas, souls, spirits, and afterlife are absurdities. Only reason is left, but reason is active only because sensations (i.e., firing of neurons, chemical interactions) stimulate it.

Thus we find contemporary neo-Gnostic materialists like cognitive scientist Daniel Dennett, one of the Four Horsemen of Atheism, claiming there really is no you, that soul, spirit and will are illusions caused by chemical interactions in the brain while his partner in neo-Gnostic nihilism, naturalist Tom Wolfe proclaims,

"Sorry, but your soul just died." (The Spiritual Brain: A Neuroscientist's Case for the Existence of the Soul, Beauregard and O'Leary, p. 4)

One major difference between ancient Gnostic teachings regarding the evils of matter and Marx's neo-Gnostic system is that all forms of private property are evil as well. With Marx the fall into private property is a very great evil for which communalism (communism) is the answer.

Eric Voegelin writes that the "dream-world constructs" of neo-Gnostic ideologues such as the pantheist Hegel and the materialist Marx necessitated the conceptual (imaginary) murder of the supernatural God. The Triune God was taken away, man's soul conceptually deconstructed and lies taught as truth. Voegelin comments:

"....the order of being (was) obliterated (and reinterpreted) as essentially under man's control." Taking control "requires the decapitation of being — the murder of God." "The aim of parousiastic gnosticism (as in Marx, Nietzsche, Heidegger) is to destroy the order of being, which is experienced as defective and unjust, and through man's creative power to replace it with a perfect and just order. (But) the order of being...remains something that is given, that is not under man's control." (Eric Voegelin, "Science, Politics and Gnosticism," p. xv)

In conclusion, Voegelin writes that man's attempts at destroying the order of being multilates and falsifies the consciousness of reality. Rather than a more perfect order there is disorder and rising levels of chaos.

What does this mean? Since the supernatural God is the creator of everything, including matter which is evil, then salvation is "from" this Triune God Who has created all men in His spiritual image. Perfection of soul necessitates not only the destruction of this order of being but Western Christian-based civilizations. And so Marx and the Vetchernaia Moskva, a Communist newspaper proclaim:

"The idea of God is the keynote of a perverted civilization. It must be destroyed." (Karl Marx, Marx and Satan, Richard Wurmbrand, p. 59)

"We do not fight against believers (or) even clergymen....We fight against God to snatch believers from Him." (Vetchernaia Moskva, a Communist newspaper, ibid, p.77)

After seizing control of Russia, neo-Gnostic Bolsheviks utilized mind-conditioning techniques such as propaganda of the lie, re-education with emphasis on Darwinism as well as horrifying mind-altering drugs, electro-shock therapy, terror and other brutal measures to destroy the order of being created by the supernatural Triune God, meaning the individual soul created in the spiritual image of the Triune God. India's greatest Christian scholar, Vishal Mangalwadi, explains that Gnostics tried to forcefully absorb individual souls into a quasi-Buddhist conception of the One Substance, a collective consciousness:

"(they tried to) liquidate all expressions of individual identity in favor of an impersonal collective, communal consciousness." (The Book that Made Your World, Mangalwadi, p. 74)

By these means they sought to destroy the spiritual view of man (order of being) taught by St. Augustine (AD 354-430) and affirmed for fifteen hundred years in Christendom and then later Protestant America. In Augustine's Scriptural exegis, all men are the spiritual image-bearers of the transcendent Triune God, thus it logically follows that each person is a trinity of being — of soul, spirit, and body:

"The essence of the human is not the body, but the soul. It is the soul alone that God made in his own image and the soul that he loves....For the sake of the soul...the Son of God came into the world...." (Incomplete Work on Matthew, Homily 25, Ancient Christian Devotional, Oden and Crosby, p. 153)

Now man is not just a body but a soul/spirit. AS C.S. Lewis has said, you are not a body but a soul embedded in a body. Any attempt at destroying this order of being multilates and falsifies man's consciousness of reality. Hence whereas the soul/spirit that lives in submission to the Will of God is filled with joy, patience, love, truth, humbleness, perseverance, and blessed eternal life, the mutilated soul closed off to the Will of God is full of skepticism, lies, sophistry, revulsion, burning envy, impatience, seething hatred, jealousy, rebelliousness, blasphemy, and eternal life in Hell.

Neo-Gnostic materialism has always been utterly repugnant to more spiritually sensitive people. With its' nihilism, mechanistic universe, reductionism, moral anarchy and irrationalism, it has generated its own crisis of credibility. However, as a universal solvent its' usefulness has been in breaking down the West's Biblical-based worldview and transforming the religious consciousness of the West and America. Hence the vast spiritual void it has created is even now being filled with far more dangerous occult pantheist, Eastern-oriented Gnosticism, which as a spiritual force began to emerge in the United States around 1965.

By the mid-1980s, a bright "new" spirituality began to seductively beckon all souls either already closed off to the Triune God or in process thereof. Promising personal "spiritual" enlightenment, powers, unending pleasure, and oneness with the Divine, it enticingly whispers, "you can become god."

In her book, "The Aquarian Conspiracy," New Age insider Marilyn Ferguson identifies the "new" spirituality as New Age and says that this movement of spirit is poised to radically transform our culture. Western society is at a pivotal point, said Ferguson in reference to what she called the "Emergent Culture" of New Age.

Peter Jones, author of "Spirit Wars: Pagan Revival in Christian America" connects the 'new' spirituality to pagan Gnosticism. He points to progressive Liberalism and its' many contemporary permutations such as Evolutionary Christianity as the carrier of the occult spiritual virus into the Body of the Church where it acts to divide Christians against each other.

In his essay, "Pagan Revival in Christian America," Jones writes that the West has broken with its Judeo-Christian roots and the new spirituality--- a very different spirituality, an antithetical world view--has flooded into the West:

"The superimposing of these two totally antithetical world views on each other produces an extremely confusing situation. Have you noticed how confused people are in trying to make decisions about morals or ethics, or even about spiritual things? We’ve probably never lived in a more confusing time. What was once at the center of Western culture now is pushed to the margins. What was the very backbone of the West – namely, Christianity – is now sort of simply expressed at the edges. That’s why we often hear that Christianity is a marginal, bigoted way of looking at things. This is the occasion for the institutionalization and the great spread of the new paganism, as we in the West accept many of the fundamental notions of Eastern paganism."

Occult pantheist spirituality always surfaces at the end of a civilization. It heralded the end of Assyria, Babylonia, Greece, Rome and the Aztec civilization. It came at the end of the medieval world and now it has come at the end of the post-Christian West.

Neo-Gnostic materialist Karl Marx proclaimed that the war being waged is against God and the world created by Him. This is no less true for today's occult pantheist "Christian" Gnostics who intend to fully possess supernatural Christian theism, refashion it completely, spew out the faithful remnant and label them as haters, separatists (individual souls), and intolerable bigots.

The question for the faithful is this: Do they possess the undying faith, unfaltering courage, love of Truth, rock-solid conviction, perseverance and will to engage this spiritual war?
