Nihilism: The Perverse Will of the Egocentric Individual

The always insightful G.K. Chesterton once said that Westerners are living in increasingly abnormal times. What is abnormal about our age, you might ask?

Abnormalcy is Emergent Church Pastor Rob Bell claiming to be reinventing Christianity as a neo-pagan Eastern spirituality. It is thousands of Catholic nuns and some male priests who have become witches and 'gay' druids and shaman. It is evangelical leader Leonard Sweet using quantum physics to 'scientifically' prove that God is 'in' everything (pantheism) and it is President Obama using Jesus Christ, the Way, the Truth and the Life, the Alpha and Omega, God Himself to justify the pagan ideal, androgyny and/or gender-neutrality:

"[W]hen we think about our faith, the thing at root that we think about is not only Christ sacrificing Himself on our behalf, but it's also the golden rule -- treat others the way you'd want to be treated." (Using Christian faith to justify 'LGBT Pride Month', Charlie Butts, OneNews Now)

All of these people exemplify the fall of the post-Christian West and America into the abyss. They, like vast numbers of Westerners and Americans and increasing numbers of 'Christians,' no longer see the True Light because their eyes do not look up toward the true God but down, to egocentric 'self' and the lower things of this world. They have lost their reason, and said early Church Father Athanasius,

" (they) have plunged into the lusts and imaginations of carnal things because they have forgotten the knowledge and glory" of the transcendent God. (Evil: Cause of Western/American Idolatry )

The morally-informed reasoning of all who have either outright denied or forgotten the transcendent God, has fallen into varying degrees of moral imbecility and unreason, and with pride inflated, they have wittingly or unwittingly made gods of themselves and of things, technology, feelings, disordered appetites, concepts, theories, and ideologies. Thus today, everything and everyone--even Jesus Christ and Christianity-- exist to gratify desires, caprices, whims and needs of individuals who have made gods of themselves.

All sin begins with pride (self-love), said Augustine. Pride is perverse. It has no regard for Higher Things-- life, unchanging truth, moral absolutes, order, direction, respect, justice, goodness, gratitude, righteousness, and normalcy. Its' perversity can be seen in what it constantly chooses---death, lies, pretense, deception, moral anarchy, misdirection, angry outbursts, disorder, disrespect, injustice, ingratitude, self-righteousness, and abnormalcy.

The eighteenth-century apocalyptic prophet Fyodor Dostoevsky described the perverse will as the most nihilistic of all spiritual forces, for like the mind, the will is of man's spirit. Hence the nihilistic will originates and resides in the darkened soul rather than the soul filled with the Light of Truth and Goodness.

In simple terms, nihilism is the reduction of Higher Things to lower things and of two opposite things to one thing. Thus for example, Jesus Christ is reduced to mere man, creation ex nihilo to evolutionary naturalism, the supernatural and natural dimensions are collapsed into one dimension--the natural dimension; the two sexes are merged into two-in-one-beings (gender-neutral gays, lesbians), and unchanging truth and moral absolutes are reduced to moral relativism, and/or moral anarchy.

The most infamous prophet of nihilism is the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. It was Nietzsche who declared the death of the supernatural God, of all Higher Things and of Christendom, and added that even now, during his lifetime that is, this poisonous darkness is spreading over and across Christian-based European civilization.

And having 'killed' Christendom by reducing it to secularized 'nothingness,' it is doing the same to America, Canada and Australia.

Only in this light can we understand and make sense of the West's abnormal, strangely twisted, increasingly perverse atmosphere, for it is the "death of God" made tangible and it is Nietzsche who describes our Godless, meaningless, purposeless, disordered, ugly, atonal, brutal, upside-down climate of nothingness:

"We have killed him (God), you and I! ...But how have we done it? How were we able to drink up the sea? Who gave us the sponge to wipe away the whole horizon? What did we do when we loosened this earth from its sun? Whither does it now move? Whither do we move? ...Do we not dash on unceasingly? Backwards, sideways, forwards, in all directions? Is there still an above and below? Do we not stray...through infinite nothingness? Does not empty space breathe upon us? ...Does not night come on continually, darker and darker?" (Nihilism: The Root of the Revolution of the Modern Age, Eugene Rose, p. 108)

In other words, an egregore of destructive spiritual energy working through nihilistic wills has perversely wiped away reality. In its stead are steadily darkening fantasies, theaters of the absurd in which 'Christian' theologians reinvent Jesus Christ and Christianity, nuns become witches, priests become druids, and the President of the U.S. uses Jesus Christ, God Himself, to promote androgyny.

Not surprisingly, nihilism also underlies all permutations of the emerging 'new' spirituality, whether Evolutionary Christianity, Westernized Hinduism, Gnosticism, Mythology, New Age, Theosophy, Scientology, Jungian Depth Psychology, Interfaith, Trans-humanism, Wicca, Goddess worship, and the spiritual 'gay' agenda, for there is no form of the new spirituality that is not one-dimensional naturalism. All are equally without the true supernatural God, therefore not one of them has a source for life, consciousness, and soul, hence all are merely different expressions of nothingness. This too is abnormal, wholly perverse, and utterly suicidal.

In our theater of the absurd there is neither up nor down, male nor female, right nor wrong, true nor false, normal nor abnormal because the supernatural living God is dead in the hearts of vast numbers of Westerners and Americans, including Christians over and across the entire denominational spectrum. Thus from W. Europe to America, our once-Christian civilizations drift aimlessly in infinite nothingness as nihilism perversely dissolves everything that promotes life, is good, true, right, normal and just.
