A Nation without an Anchor

Porn is good for kids. At least that’s what I learned yesterday while watching the PG-rated The Spy Next Door with my children. The 10-year-old little boy was accused of making up stories about visiting the Playboy mansion. To his principal's charge, he responded something like this, “Well, I did watch the Playboy channel in HD. It was almost like being there.”

Then last night on one of the summer television shows, a young man was talking to an older woman. Apparently he’d had a crush on her since he was a kid. She tells him she’s married, implying their relationship can’t go any further. To this he replies, “If you ever want to transgress, I’m here.”

Now I know Hollywood is completely lost—I’m not naive. But if you pay close attention you’ll see a growing portion of our culture doesn’t see anything wrong with either of these statements. Our nation is turning the whole world upside down, and the battles fought in the political realm are only the ever darkening symptoms of a deeper disorder.

Today we damn the Ten Commandments of Moses, and applaud the Five Pillars of Islam. We teach astrology to our fifth graders, but ban prayer. We ridicule faithful marriage, and idolize men sleeping with men. We devalue hard work and enterprise, and exalt the free ride.
